The PC has improved the world in just about every area you can think of. Amazing developments in communications, collaborations and efficiencies. New kinds of entertainment and social media Access to information and the ability to give a voice to people who would never have been heard.
So I had a flashing thought this evening about Social Media and my final choice to use it. I have to agree with Bill Gates, course on the flip side there is a great deal of social damage that is taking place as well. The generation behind mine is forgetting how to have relationships, conversation, social skills, respect and manners…but that is it’s own discussion.
When I came to Social Media, roughly 6 years ago, I came to it as an adult who learned how to use computers as a young adult. I still remember computers that were enormous, had brown screens and orange text…hell I remember the first computers as a younger child…10 maybe and they were HUGE and had black screens and green text. I remember playing Pong on a computer. My dad was an engineer so he had access to the “new” upcoming gadgets.
A class I took about how to use Social Media for your business, and the instructor said, “Social Media is like High School the more popular you are the more Likes you get. Your whole self esteem is based on interactions on Social Media”…to which I raised my hand and said two things: Social Media is a tool and a learning resource not a source of worth and if that is how you see it, then I feel terribly sorry for you. Surprisingly enough, the instructor and I became friends and I used her a year later to help me implement some social media into my Facebook Studio Page for Wylde Soul Photography. Where is this going?
To this, after spending a great deal of time and effort and referral chasing, I felt I was coming up on a time wall. I know I went into this in an earlier post (here) but the truth is I had to try this avenue. I am not super proud of it, I certainly did not seek or want any notoriety that may or may not come from it. I am a professional and I wanted to come in the door as a professional. In writing these letters it is my hope that anyone reading these understands more about the preparation that goes into fulfilling a dream AND that the possibility of fulfilling any dream comes about when you refuse to let go until you have tried your best to get where you want to go….and not at cost of others. In a lot of ways I see this as a two way street, a way of presenting a creative collaboration that will change you, me and your fans. It will certainly create a body of work in a permanent form.
The last thing to answer is What do I hope to accomplish with this campaign? I hope to create the opportunity to sit down and have a real discussion with your management team. If it comes about because you see this and arrange for me to meet with your publicist or agent…AWESOME. If some literary or photographic agent who has connections to your “camp” sees it or it is shared with them and they contact me and arrange the opportunity…AWESOME.
Either way at the end of this campaign, I will either be on your tour building this amazing collaborative body of work or I won’t. I am leaning towards optimism.
*PS-Dear Reader- The only favor I ask is that you follow the story, Share if you are so inclined. Know that I am following dreams as you do.
